17th/18th century|The Goddess of Mercy depicted seated with a serene expression, holding a small boy in both arms, her thickly-folded robes finely incised with a ruyi-cloud pattern and picked out in gilt, her hair arranged in a high chignon beneath a hood and painted black, the base separately carved and intricately pierced stand forming a rocky outcrop.
