Description Grand Tour Bas Relief Bronzed Ceramic Plaque depicting the "Arco de Constantino" in Rome, acquired by Cornelia Crittenden Craft of Holly Springs, Mississippi during her 1902-1903 tour of Europe. Incised JMV 5149 en verso. 12 5/8" diameter x 2" D. Note: Cornelia Crittenden Craft (1870-1953) was the fourth of five children born to Addison and Frances Breckinridge (Young) Craft. She had a passion for art and a wanderlust for travel from a young age embarking upon her Grand Tour in 1904. She kept a detailed journal of extensive travels throughout the Mediterranean region, the Middle East and Western Europe. A brief catalogue of her myriad of ports of call via steamship; travels by auto, train and caravan through the deserts on the Middle East were kept on every scrap of paper she could find, most often on long, narrow sheets of teletype from the ship’s office and backs of envelopes. Her notes shows she visited Rome on Thursday, May 5, 1904.
