Description German School oil on canvas genre painting "A Woman Washing Her Hands" after the original by Gerard Ter Borch II (Netherlands/Holland, 1617-1681) executed in 1655. Depicts a lady dressed in a blue satin dress aided by her maid using a pitcher and bowl to wash her hands, while a small dog sits by the dressing table. Dresden 1914 manufacturer's stamp, en verso of canvas. Illegible pencil inscription and partially legible pen inscription en verso: "This came from Duncan Schied's father's estate, and he was an antique dealer in London. He ... the Victoria & Albert Museum./M & D Sheet 1930 Carmal. Ind.", en verso of stretcher. Housed in a giltwood frame. Sight: 20 1/4" H x 16 1/4" W. Framed: 25 3/8" H x 21 3/8" W.
