Despite the age gap, the two brothers' painting style was closely linked, favoring landscapes, birds and horses using traditional methods and approaches. In this depiction of a spotted horse, Pu Zuo cites the Yuan Dynasty master Zhao Mengfu (1254-1322), as his stylistic inspiration.
