觥是中国古代盛酒器，流行于商代，多为青铜材质，一般作椭圆或长方形体，或仿动物形体。此作品外形及纹饰皆仿商周之际青铜器而制，古朴华美，蕴含装饰趣味。取材和田白玉，质地温润细糯，玉质上乘，局部有沁色。以镂雕、浮雕、活环套接等工艺集成一体，雕工十分繁琐。玉觥略呈长方形，宽流，盖面做有角的兽头状，钮部镂雕龙形，口沿及圈足均以阴刻线一周，器身浅浮兽面纹饰加以云纹点缀，并有多处出戟工艺。瓶身一侧镂雕龙形似其耳，一侧活环套接。整器构思巧妙，布局和谐，雕工精细，造型古朴端庄，工艺精湛绝伦，用料硕大，极为难得。明清之际这一类玉器的造型多为宫廷造办处琢制。
