A blue and white bowl with interior fish pond pattern, Ming Dynasty, early 17th century, China, Decorated on the outside with flowering peony and scrolling foliage. The inside of the bowl showing a central roundel holding a fish amidst seaweed. The wide inner border containing a further four fish and the border along the top of the inside a band of waves. Not marked., D ca. 22 cm, H 10.3 cm, A similar bowl is on display in the British Museum, London, room 95 (Collection of the Sir Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art). Museum number PDF,A.667. This bowl is discussed in several publications. Another bowl of this type is on display in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the South Kensington British Galleries, room 58. That bowl, known as 'The Trenchard Bowl', is mounted in silver gilt mounts., The bowl is notpletely round and has some other typical (glaze) imperfections (manufacturing flaws). Glaze loss/fritting along the top rim but no other damage; no hairlines and no restoration.
