H:7.4cmA Blue and White Globular Waterpot, six character mark of Xuande and possibly of the periodthe rounded sides finely painted in good blue, with extensive 'heaping and piling', with a confident floral meander, above a lotus lappet border rising from a classic scroll band around the foot, the rounded shoulder with lotus scroll between double line borders, with the nianhao in a line just below this, boxThe rounded sides rising from a concave foot, painted to the sides in inky washes of cobalt blue with peonies borne on the same continuous scroll surrounded by fleshy leaves and attendant buds, with a band of classic scroll and lappets at the foot and a band of lotus scrolls at the rim, the underglaze blue six-character mark inscribed horizontally below the rim. Compare a similar blue and white jar with flowers, Xuande mark and period from Ashmolean Museum, Unicersity of Oxford, EA 1997.25; another, included in the Ceramic Society of Japan's Inaugural Exhibition, Hiroshima, 1954, lot 14, was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30th May 2012, lot 4056; another similar one was sold by Sotheby's London, 16 May 2018, lot 134.
