笔筒掏膛后依玉料雕成圆柱形，外壁浮雕松树、白云、宝塔、童子等。宝塔高耸入云，松树枝繁叶茂，三足底，内壁光滑，外壁局部有橘黄色玉皮，笔筒玉质莹润，雕琢精细，抛光极好。玉笔筒在明清时期多见，清代比明代更多，雕刻题材也更广泛，除实用外，兼为陈设赏玩。玉笔筒一般以和田白玉和碧玉(或青玉)制成，有圆筒形、方斗形、竹节形和树桩形等，其中以圆筒形最为常见，成为中国历代工艺品宝库中的精品。
