Pair of Satsuma miniature vases, Japan, c. 1900, painted porcelain with lavish gold decoration, fully plastic dragons with open and closed mouths applied around gourd shapes, golden honeycomb patterns with chrysanthemum heads, wave and thunder patterns in the background, battle scenes of the samurai in the picture fields, each with two coat-of-arms(mon) of the Shimazu clan, therefore presumably for the private use of the Shimazu, both signed dainihon satsumakuni chou, h. 9cm, d. 6cm
