Imari plate with lucky mark, Japan, Arita, Edo period (1603-1868), porcelain with hybrid decoration in cobalt blue underglaze and polychrome onglaze painting as well as enamel and gold paint, serving the humour of the time, in the centre a Japanese man with an English captain's hat searching for bamboo shoots (takenoko) in fine blue and white painting, the rim decorated in the colours of the Kakiemon style with Chinese children(karako) dancing around a flower arrangement, peony emblems decorated in gold in between, on the reverse coloured peach branches, auspicious decoration according to the meaning of the four-character mark on the bottom: fuki chousun(happiness, wealth and perpetual youth), 33,5x5cm
