端石多紫，绿端石为端中奇品，此砚便以端州北岭绿端石为材雕琢而成。石材极佳，色泽青绿深沉，质凝而坚，细嫩柔滑。
整作天然硕瓜之形，砚首雕花枝一丛，蔓延至砚背，大叶翻卷，叶脉清晰写实，藤蔓丝卷盘绕，生机盎然。砚首瓜叶掩映处，巧做墨池，精雕天牛攀爬其上，写实而灵动。
原配紫檀木砚盒亦以相同题材入饰，内外呼应，和谐统一，紫檀木质佳美，雕工娴熟老辣。
硕瓜藤蔓缠绕蜿蜒，寓“瓜瓞延绵”之意，表达古人对多子、多福、多寿的向往，寓意极好。
