A THANGKA OF MANJUSHRI18th century Distemper on cloth, framed and glazed. The painting, 67cm (26 2/8in) high x 53cm (20 7/8in) wide. 十八世紀 文殊菩薩唐卡 Provenance : Berkeley Galleries (Label) 來源 :Berkeley Galleries(標籤) Berkeley Galleries were London dealers in early and non-Western art. It was founded in 1942 by William F.C.Ohly, and owned after his death in 1955 by his son Ernest Ohly who closed it in 1977. Depicting the central deity seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus pedestal, the hands held in dharmachakra mudra flanked by two lotus stalks with the blooms bearing a sword and a book, wearing a foliate tiara fronting a tall top-knot, adorned with elaborate jewellery inlaid with semi-precious stones, surrounded by various manifestations of Shakyamuni Buddha, each surrounded by monks, all set in a luxuriant landscape defined by blossoming flowers, trees and jagged rocks.
