A PAIR OF BLUE AND WHITE 'LONGEVITY' BOWLSDaoguang seal marks and of the period Painted around the body with four ruyi-bordered roundels, enclosing four stylised characters reading Wanshou Wujiang (boundless long life), surrounded by lotus scrolls below a band of the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang , the interior decorated with a central roundel of a stylised shou character encircled by a further band of emblems. 19cm (7 1/2in) diam. (2). 清道光 青花萬壽無疆碗一對 青花「大清道光年製」篆書款 Provenance : an English private collection, and thence by descent 來源 :英國私人收藏,遂由後人繼承 For the prototype of the Daoguang bowls, see a very similar blue and white bowl, Qianlong seal mark and of the period, illustrated in Treasures in the Royalty: The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty , Shanghai, 2003, p.309; the decorative motif suggests that bowls of this type may have been produced for an Imperial birthday banquet.
