Designed by Edwin E. Codman (American, 1876–1955) Gorham Manufacturing Company, Providence, circa 1904. Spaulding & Co., Chicago, marked under base and wax plans A4464 & A4465, also with St. Louis Fair mark. Total weight - 122.58 troy ounces. Gorham presented both Martele and Athenic silver at the 1904 St. Louis Louisiana Purchase Exposition, which was America’s introduction to Art Nouveau. The candelabra are marked with S superimposed with L for St. Louis to denote their significance as pieces exhibited at the Fair.
