Gabler/Ohnesorge 454 - Croissant counts among the most outstanding representatives of German sculpture in the second half of the 20th century. After an apprenticeship as a stonemason and attending a private art school, he studied at the Munich Art Academy under Toni Stadler, and from 1966 to 1988 he held a professorship at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. C. left behind a very extensive oeuvre of over 1500 works. The central theme of his art was the figure, his style is characterised by radical simplification of form and abstraction.
