O. studied at the Munich Academy under F. Fehr, G. von Hackl and P. Hoecker. He traveled to Italy and Greece and exhibited at the Berlin Secession in 1899. In 1902 he moved to London and quickly became a portrait painter in great demand. He was able to build on this success when he returned to Berlin in 1908.
