A 1981 bronze sculpture by Jay Holland depicting the Montebank in a contrapposto pose. Artist s signature, date and edition number (1/6). Jay Holland studied at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (now the Center for Creative Studies (CCS)) and Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a Professor of sculpture at CCS for 34 years and served two years as Fine Arts Chairman. He exhibited at the Flint Museum of Art (1960), Michigan State University (1985), Bloomfield-Birmingham Art Center (2006) and the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum at Saginaw Valley State University (2016) where a later casting from this edition was exhibited and illustrated in the exhibition catalogue. This work was titled in the exhibition catalogue as "Montebank". It is possible that this was a typographical error and the correct title could be meant to describe the swindler or trickster "Mountebank". Depth 7".When viewed under natural light, no losses or visible demerits were observed.
