|笔筒以沈香木为材，沈香木多见文房小件器物，蔡攸《丛谈》云：“万安黎母山东的沈香，冠绝天下，一片万钱。”故沈香金贵且多朽木细干，用之雕刻，少有大材，此件用大料整挖，极为难得。外壁随形巧雕群仙祝寿，以南极老人（寿星）归家作为故事中心，布陈巧思艺境。于转折处雕出垂崖峭壁、老松巨干分隔画面。此笔筒用材硕大，久经摩玩传承，包浆浓郁匀净，深沈如犀，是一件珍贵的文房器。
