Platt Powell Ryder (Brooklyn, 1821-1896); Oil on Canvas on stretcher, signed lower right corner, "P P Ryder" and dated "'71"; The Violinist; framed with engraved name tag. Height of art 16 inches (41 cm.) X width of art 12 inches (30.5 cm.). NOTE: Specializing in Genre Scenes and Portraits, Platt Powell Ryder first exhibited at the National Academy in 1850 and made an Associate in 1868; he studied in Paris with Leon Bonnat and studied in London; active in the founding of the Brooklyn Academy of Design; he died Saratoga Springs, NY. His paintings are in numerous important Museums. PROVENANCE: Ex collection Mildred Gale, Orange, NJ with 1963 photographs and paperwork to Curator Axel von Saldern offering to sell the painting to the Brooklyn Museum.
