Monochrome Green-glazed Awaji VaseJapan, 19th/20th century, pear-form with a slightly flaring neck and a wide mouth rim, glazed interior and base, impressed "Japan" mark near foot, ht. 7 1/8 in. Provenance: A family heirloom collection mostly formed in the 1900-20s by Dr. Frederick Whiting (1821-1946). Dr. Whiting was a philanthropic otologist/professor of Clinical Surgery in Otology at Cornell University who authored the book, Modern Mastoid Operation. He was also known as a collector of American painting, medallic art, and Asian porcelain.
