鱼鼓、宝剑、花蓝、笊篱、葫芦、扇子、阴阳板、横笛是八仙手持的八件法器。以此八样纹饰，俗称“暗八仙”，是与“佛八宝”对应的“道家八宝”，暗里含道家的灵术异法。清代皇帝中对道家术法最为追求者为雍正皇帝，故此类图案那时出现最多。本品为光绪淡描绘就，此技法更契合了道家逍遥自在的恬淡原则，蕴含信仰吉祥之意。
