Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A lovely hand-built pottery jar with a vibrant and mesmerizing geometric motif across the buff surface. The base is rounded but stable, the walls swelling outward and up to a slightly out folded lip. The patterns are painted in black and red hues presenting a mystifying stepped triangular, curvilinear, and geometric motifs. The decorative style of this vessel belongs to the Ramos Polychrome group, which represents the pinnacle of achievement for Casas Grandes ceramics!
