Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi) region, Narino Highlands, Narino culture, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery figure seated atop a stable base with hands held to bent knees. Highly burnished and covered in red-orange slip, the figure peers out with protruding eyes and has a triangular nose, parted lips, and cupped ears, all beneath a minimalist coiffure bearing a narrow perforation.
