Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. A delicate vessel shaped from sheets of hammered copper covered in a wonderfully reflective layer of silver. The vessel exhibits a cupped base with 4 pairs of perforated suspension holes, a carinated circular body with a rounded top, and a broad handle arching between a pair of conical spouts. Attached to the base of each spout is a hammered jaguar head applique with a pointed ear, a large eye, and a trapezoidal snout showing bared fangs. The attachment holes along the foot indicate this vessel was at one time attached to a textile, perhaps as funerary attire. Size: 7.9" W x 6.7" H (20.1 cm x 17 cm); silver quality: 19% Provenance: ex-Splendors of the World, Haiku, Hawaii, USA, before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
