Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 500 to 700 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel exhibiting a squat foot, a stirrup-shaped handle surmounted by a cylindrical spout, and a conical stem emanating upwards from atop the spherical body, all presented in cream and russet pigments. The conical central element represents a type of Moche war club with a sturdy shaft and a knob-form head meant for shattering bone and armor alike. Surrounding the base of the shaft is a series of fineline Moche images of war including tumi blades, a second war club, an idiophone, and perhaps a set of severed male genitalia.
