Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase II to III, ca. 250 to 550 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a slightly rounded but stable base, a spherical body with a curved shoulder, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a gently corseted spout with a thick rim. Painted with red-brown pigment atop a cream-hued ground, the vessel presents a pair of large, right-facing crawfish (also crawdads or crayfish) as they swim along with their whiskers projecting in front of their segmented carapace, a petite cheliped beneath the head, and a frilled tail fin.
