Moses got up and went up to the mountain of God, along with his helper Joshua. He said to the elders, "Wait for us in this place until we return. Aaron and Hur stay here with you, and if anyone has a problem, let him bring it to them. When Moses had said this, he went up the mountain, and the mountain was covered with a cloud. The glory of the Lord came to rest on Mount Sinai, and for six days the cloud covered it. On the seventh day the Lord called to Moses out of the cloud. The glory of the Lord appeared to the eyes of the Israelites like a devouring fire, over the highest part of the mountain. Moses entered the cloud and went up into the mountain, and there he stayed forty days and forty nights.
