Ca. 250 - 400 AD, or later A glass cage-cup with a pale iridescent hemispherical body with rounded base, curved and outsplayed rim; wheelcut decoration in the form of a blue collar of projecting openwork flange of ovolo pattern; cage in blue glass covering body and base consisting a central circle surrounded by two concentric rings of meshes, heart-shaped in innermost ring; two rows of rings each with a cruciform motif concealing strut which attaches cage to side of bowl. Cf. Harden, D. Glass of the Caesars, London, 1987, p. 242 for the Constable Maxwell Cage-Cup. Possibly of a later period or heavily restored.
