JOSE MARÍA YTURRALDE (Cuenca, 1942)."Horizonte", 1988.Silkscreen on paper. Copy 21/99.Signed and dated.Sizes: 80 x 59 cm., 96 x 77 cm. (frame).Between 1968 and 1972, José María Yturralde developed his series "Serial Structures". In them, he dealt with part of the spatial problematic in which he studied different figures and projection systems. With his figures he confronted plastically the custom of perception with the analysis of its structure. His three-dimensional forms, formed from two-dimensional data, were capable of deceiving the eye of the spectator, who sought a logical analysis and configured meanings, finally opting for the confusion conveyed by the perception of confusing stimuli. In short, his work was based on the search for a direct action on optical sensitivity. He holds a degree and doctorate in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. In 1968 he received a scholarship from the Calculus Centre of the University of Madrid. He makes his first works with a computer. Influenced by the Op Art introduced by Eusebio Sempere (1923-1985) on the Spanish scene, by the work of Victor Vasarely (1906-1997), promoter of kinetic art; the language of Mark Rothko (1903-1970); as well as by the neoclassical aesthetic theories of the thinker Edmund Burke, Yturralde's work took the direction of a study of forms and projective systems. The works of the artist from Cuenca are represented in various museums and collections, such as the Museo de Arte Abstracto de Cuenca, Brooklin Museum, New York, Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Dep. Art and Sciences, The Asahí Shimbun, Tokyo. P.R. Norman Collection, New Orleans. USA or at the Martinez Guerricabeitia Foundation. University of Valencia.
