JOSÉ GARCÍA POVEDA (Mula, Murcia, 1950)."Havana", November 1999.Photograph printed on photographic paper.Signed and dated on the back.Measurements: 30 x 40 cm.José García Poveda, 'El Flaco', was born in Mula in the fifties, in the last century, and left to study Economics in Valencia in 1969. Since then he has lived in that city. Soon he felt the need to start developing his own photos in a small and rudimentary laboratory at home. He began to hang his snapshots in 1985 with an exhibition entitled 'La última vez que vi tu cara' (The last time I saw your face), and that same year he held another two exhibitions, 'Fotos de Valencia' in the Café Negrito and 'Visiones de Continental' in the gallery of the same name. In 1989 he held the exhibition 'Sesión de noche' at the Café Lisboa. From then on his artistic career took off, travelling around America and other continents. Poveda travelled to Havana ten times between 1990 and 1999, the last of them in November of that year, during the Ibero-American summit that brought King Juan Carlos and former Prime Minister José María Aznar to the island, and it is in this context that these photographs are situated.
