MARÍA TERESA CODINA, (Biarritz, France, 1926)."Composition".Colour lithograph, H.C. copy.Signed and numbered in pencil.Measurements: 76 x 56 cm.Born in France and based in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona), the textile artist María Teresa Codina began her training at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where she studied between 1951 and 1953, and then continued at the School of Fine Arts in Paris until 1956. She began her career in the field of painting and held several exhibitions of her early work, but around 1960 she entered the field of textile research, evolving at the same time towards a language influenced by the aesthetics of contemporary informalist abstraction. From now on he would preferably use sackcloth and vegetable fibres, although he did not limit himself to experimenting with materials, and was also interested in the location of the work in space. His collaboration with the architects J. Martorell, O. Bohigas and D. Mackay is particularly significant in this respect. Since the 1960s Codina has taken part in exhibitions such as the Salón de Mayo in Barcelona and the Lausanne Biennials (Switzerland), as well as participating in other international competitions.
