GUILLERMO NUÑEZ (Santiago de Chile,1930).Untitled.Lithograph on paper.Slight damage to the frame.Signed in pencil in the lower central area.Measurements: 36 x 24 cm; 50 x 39 cm (frame).Guillermo Nuñez began his artistic training in 1944, studying at the Instituto Nacional General José Miguel Carrera and later at the Escuela de Bellas Artes and also at the Escuela del Teatro de la Universidad de Chile, where he later worked as a teacher. During his formative years he decided to travel to Europe, visiting places such as Genoa, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and settling for a period in Paris. It was in the French capital that he began to study in the library of the Arsenal and the Opera, in addition to the great collections of paintings. Despite his classical influences such as Rembrandt and Delacroix, his friendship with Roberto Matta awakened a new professional artistic facet. He participated in the World Youth Festival and in the Congress for the Rights of Youth in Vienna and in 1956 he had his first solo exhibition at the Chilean-British Institute of Culture in Santiago. In 1959, he travelled to Prague, due to a scholarship from the Ministry of Czechoslovakia, where he lived for two years. Later he returned to Chile, where he set up his studio. During this new stage he made several trips to the United States, incorporated new techniques to his artistic repertoire such as fabrics or photography and explored themes such as the Vietnam War, he also worked for the theatre, creating both costumes and sets. It was in 1974 when, due to the tense situation created by the Pinochet dictatorship, he was imprisoned and tortured. After his release, he held an exhibition, the direct consequence of which was exile.
