JEAN MIOTTE (France, 1926-2016)."Composition".Full bleed silkscreen, copy 54/75.Signed and numbered in pencil.Size: 65 x 49 cm .French painter known for his works of lyrical abstraction of introspective character. He trained under the instructions of Achille-Émile Othon Friesz and Ossip Zadkine in the Montparnasse district of Paris. He later travelled to New York in 1961, where he met the modern painters Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell, whose work had a great influence on Miotte's development, especially the incorporation of gestural forms of great character. Miotte was part of the Art Informel movement, comparing his working style to that of jazz musicians or ballet dancers for the correlation of fluid movements within a structured practice.Today, much of his work can be found at the Miotte Foundation, as well as at the Chelsea Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the National Museum of Singapore, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Dunkirk, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, among others.
