笔架山早期多为石质陈设于文人案头，是置放毛笔的一种文具，宋朝鲁应龙在《闲窗括异志》中对此有准确描述：“远峰列如笔架”此瓷质笔架山，高低耸秀，满施白釉，肥厚纯正，笔架山中心雕刻罗汉坐像，造型新颖，充满了文人情趣。
