After William Heath (British, 1795-1840)The Prime Lobster (Wellington), hand coloured etching, published by Thomas McLean, 26 Haymarket, London, 1829, 14 ¼ x 9 7/8in. (36.2 x 25cm.), framed.* Notes: One of the most iconic of the famous series of caricatures by William Heath depicting Wellington as Prime Minister. Here Wellington is represented as a giant lobster, his distinctive profile between the creature's raised claws. From his back hangs a Chancellor of the Exchequer's gown. On the ground in front of him are his cocked hat and sword and a song headed "The Soldier Tired of Wars".Condition Report: Time stained but the colouring good. The sheet has slipped in its mount.
