Three deities made of wood. CHINA: 1.) Fine bamboo carving of Lie Tieguai, Qing dynasty (1644-1911). The patron saint of the sick is depicted standing on a tree stump base with his two attributes: the crutch and the gourd, H: 32 cm. 2) Bamboo carving of Guanyin, c. 1920. The goddess of compassion stands on a wave pedestal with two children. Aureole-like, the tail of a dragon rears up behind the Guanyin as if for protection, h: 36 cm. 3) Budai made of hardwood, 1970s. The god of happiness, contentment as well as protector of children is depicted sitting bare-bellied and accompanied by five playing children, h: 25 cm. Signs of age.
