A Chinese porcelain Luohan by Zeng Longsheng. The Luohan has a ruyi wand and a 4-character mark to the bottom and a wooden stand. Dimensions are: 17 inches tall X 10 1/2 inches wide 8 inches deep, 43.18 cm X 26.67 cm X 20.32 cm. All measurements are approximate.

Zeng Longsheng once studied under You Zhangzi. Influenced by his family, Zeng fell in love with sculpting when he was a child. Different from most porcelain sculptors who create pieces based on historical allusions or stories of deities, Zeng Longsheng usually drew inspiration from daily lives and folk lore. His works are usually life-like characters with expressive faces in delicate clothing. His craftsmanship is exquisite and renowned. His porcelain statue of Sun Yat-sen brought him a gold award in Panama International Exposition, and his "Dragon Boat" is considered a national treasure. This sculpture of Samantabhadra is finely glazed, wearing a crown and donned in kasaya, with a ruyi in his left hand. Right next to a begging bowl, he solemnly sits on a rock. With his thick eyebrows high and his eyes lowered, his expression is calm. The bottom of the statue is engraved with a four-character maker’s mark "Zeng Longsheng Zao" (Made by Zeng Longsheng). The sculpture is life- like, thanks to the free but meticulous craftsmanship. The kasaya is expertly sculpted, showing its soft texture with emphasis on strong twists and pauses of the grooves. Zeng incorporated techniques of wood sculpting into this porcelain sculpture, as these forms of expression are typical in wood sculpting. Influenced by new year's paintings, the coloring of the sculpture is vivid but not intrusive, and highly decorative, which is appreciated by many. Most of Zeng Longsheng's sculptures are of Arhats. This piece however is a statue of a Bodhisattva, which is very rare and highly sought after by collectors. Works by the same artist have sold at Christie's New York in September 2014 as lot 983, and at Sotheb's New York in September 2018 as lot 1487.

曾龍昇 瓷塑普賢菩薩（附原配木座）

曾龍升曾拜遊長子為師，因受家庭影響，他從小就愛上了立體雕刻這門藝術。歷史典故或者神仙道人題材的瓷塑家不同，曾龍升的表現題材多取自生活來自民間的傳說故事。他所創作的雕塑作品其手法精湛，形象逼真，造型傳神，塑者多以衣紋繁復，生動細膩，五官清晰，表情豐富的雕塑造像人物為主。所作「 孫中山」 瓷像，曾獲巴拿馬國際金質獎，所作《大龍船》更為國寶。此件「普賢菩薩」瓷塑，釉色純正，頭戴帽冠，身披袈裟，濃眉高目，雙目微俯，面帶肅穆，神態莊嚴，手持如意，衣飾線條流暢細膩。端坐於石臺之上，身邊置有一缽，莊嚴肅穆。造像底部刻有「曾龍升造」四字款。人物造型生動傳神，刀法自然灑脫，十分講究，衣紋處理得肯定而明快，有松有緊，並且強调了轉折、頓挫，可以看到作者吸取了傳統木雕的手法。在色彩搭配上受民間年畫的影響，設色濃郁，艷而不媚，裝飾性強，為人們所喜聞樂見。曾龍升所造雕瓷以羅漢擺件居多，本件為菩薩造像，非常罕見，也極具收藏價值，深受藏家追捧。
