Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. A charming pottery head bearing a stylized visage with a dramatic expression adorned with vibrant emerald pigment. Crowned by an elaborate headdress of several, intricately incised vertical bands and extending plumage, the ancient face displays half-moon-shaped eyes, a protruding, curved nose, and a cheerful, open smile with delineated teeth. Size: 4.8" W x 4.5" H (12.2 cm x 11.4 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand. Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F.
