Ancient Eastern Mediterranean / Western Anatolia, Phoenicia, ca. 10th to 8th century BCE. A remarkable bronze figure representing Tanit, the Phoenician goddess invoked for fertility, rain in times of drought, and worshipped as a sky goddess who ruled over the celestial realm. Enveloped in a verdant green patina evocative of the ancient world, the deity stands with feet together as she raises her left hand to her chest and rests her right arm at her side. A lengthy garment drapes down her body, while a bulbous crown caps her large head. Her minimalist visage presents ovoid eyes, a raised nose, and a warm smile. Size (figure): 1" W x 3.5" H (2.5 cm x 8.9 cm); (case): 6.75" W x 8.75" H (17.1 cm x 22.2 cm) Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, before 2000 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
