A white and russet oval jade plaque 'spring water', Liao or Jin Dynastyof oval form, exquisitely carved in openwork with three egrets amidst long stems of lotus and lotus blossoms, the stone of even yellowish hue with russet patches, when zooming in for 60 to 100 times to observe the tiny marks on the lot, marks of hand carving and using soft abrasives could be seen, such marks are very different on modern jade pieces where new machines are used for carving and polishing.Provenance: private English collectionNote: a comparable jade plaque of similar size and dated to the Yuan Dynasty, was sold in Bonham London on 2 Nov 2021, lot 229L 10.5cm, h7.6cm
