Cleyndert was an an important Dutch nature conservationist and spatial planner. This painting by Lee Man Fong represents a few strong characteristics of Cleyndert: his love for nature, his eye for quality and aesthetics, and his courage to buy (at that time) contemporary art. He bought this painting probably at one of the Lee Man Fong exhibitions in 1950 in the Netherlands as a wedding gift for his son and daughter in law.
