Cylindrical vessel with original saucer. The cup painted with the initials PP for Pavel Petrovich formed from flower garlands and framed by a blue and gold floral surround. The sides of the cup and the saucer with putti on clouds playing with a crown and the Order of Saint Andrew. "The son of the Russian Tsarina Catherine II, Pavel Petrovich (1754 - 1801) succeeded his father, Karl Peter Ulrich von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, as Duke of Holstein-Gottorf from 1762 - 1773. His father reigned as Tsar Pyotr III Fedorovich for only 186 days before being assassinated during a coup on 9th July 1762. Pavel Petrovich was only declared tsar after the death of his mother, Tsarina Catherine II, in 1796.
