So-called 'Wietmarschen Madonna', c. 1240, carved oak, hollowed back, painted in the 19th century. Mary sits on a throne and holds the infant Jesus on her lap, the robe and cloak slide down in fine pleats onto the throne bench and base. - The figure had been on a farm in Wietmarschen (Grafschaft Bentheim) for decades and is in the tradition of the better-known sculpture of Mary from Ebstorf Monastery. Hands added, face of Mary and Jesus reworked. H. 45.5 x 25 x 23 cm. - Literature: The figure is mentioned in the thesis by Charlotte Klack-Eitzen: Die thronenden Madonnen des 13.
