She received her undergraduate degree in 1895 and continued her studies as a Graduate Art student from 1896-1898. In 1896, Kopman became an Instructor of Drawing at the school. The present piece was likely acquired by Elizabeth Villere Forsyth, the present owner's grandmother, who was a student at Newcomb College in the early 20th century.
