A Victorian silver salver with beaded rim to the raised border, the leaf-scroll engraved centre with engraved inscription: “Presented To R.M. Ballantyne Esqr. By Miss E. M. Howe the Secretary & Miss M. Oliver the Treasurer of The Edinburgh Ladies Lifeboat Fund, In Fulfillment Of The Wishes of the Late Miss Eliott Lockhart, & in Acknowledgement of His Many Services Connected With The Edinburgh Working Men’s Life Boat, 1869”, on three claw-ball feet, 10” dia., London 1866 by Joseph & Edward Bradbury (16oz). Note: ROBERT MICHAEL BALLANTYNE (1820-1894) was a noted author and artist, & pursued an adventurous career with the Hudson Baypany resulting in his 1856 novel “The Young Fur Traders”.
