Circa 618-907 AD A naturalistic representation of bull in a standing pose, painted in original red pigment, the body with long curved belly and legs with white hooves, a tail that wraps itself around the backend, incised decorated mane, neck with long flourishing fur, eyes prominent, mouth ajar, snout painted in white pigment, rounded, almost almond shaped, ears extended looking alert and ready to charge. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will apany this lot. Size: L:340mm / W:465mm; 4.2g Provenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
