Circa 100-200 AD A finely modelled Hercules club pendant, formed of hollow sheet, with a suspension loop to the top for attachment and adorned with incised decoration along its length. The pendant features a long shaft and a rounded end, Such a pendant testifies to the great refinement and attention to detail of Roman goldsmiths. Together with the lion skin, the club was the main attribute of Hercules, the Greco-Roman hero, and became a popular motif in Roman jewellery from the 2nd century AD. The item has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements.
