Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Circa 100-200 AD Standing with the weight on her left leg, the right relaxed and bent at the knee, wearing a chiton with overfold, a himation swathed around her lower body with the ends over her left shoulder. It is possible that the figure was indeed meant to represent a Muse as the drapery is very similar to that of a figure of Thalia, the Muse of theatre, in the Naples National Archaeological Museum. Similar drapery is also worn by the Muse Melpomene in the Hermitage, St Petersburg (accession no. 8669). Some restoration. Size: L: 535mm, W: 215mm; 11.5kg Provenance: Private East Coast, USA collection; ex Joseph Klein collection, formed in New York between 1941 and 1980.
