|据资料显示，宋代建窑烧造的上限在晚唐五代，下限当至南宋，此期斗茶之风极为盛行，极大地推动了建窑茶盏的生产。宋代著名书法家蔡君谟《茶录》中谓：“茶色白宜黑盏，建安新造者绀黑”，纹如兔毫，其胚微厚，熁之久热难冷最为要用。此件茶盏作黑胎，黑褐色釉，折沿大敞口，露胎浅圈足，胎质粗粝而坚致。体表釉层分布有细密的金色兔毫状釉变，为兔毫窑变釉中极为少见者。尤品相完整，包浆隐实，是宋代茶道所用的上佳茶器，世之稀珍。
