宋占魁(1845-1906)，字捷臣，又字冠杰，号梅村。山东省昌邑市王珂村人。他出身贫寒，幼时全家以卖粉、劈柴为生。他身材魁梧，力大超群，为武术教师夏胜魁所赏识，遂订下师徒之约。从此，他半日劳作，半日习武，寒暑不易，风雨无阻。几年后，学成一身坚实的武功。
